This 6x6 inch tile relief of Marshall Frederick's beloved Spirit of Detroit sculpture was created by Pewabic Pottery for the Detroit-Wayne Joint Building Authority in 2008. It is available in a single glaze palette specially selected for this tile by the DWJBA.
The Spirit of Detroit Sculpture was commissioned bythe Detroit-Wayne Joint Building Authorityin 1955 for the new City County Building (now the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center at the foot of Woodward Ave. in Downtown Detroit.
Pewabic Pottery is a studio and school located in Detroit, Michigan and founded in 1903 by Mary Chase Stratton and Horace James Caulkins.
The studio is known for its iridescent glazes.
