Covered Jar- Wildflower
$42.00
This small round covered jar has a soft matte white glaze and an intricate floral pattern in yellow, orange and green on the lid. It’s perfect for sugar, coffee, tea, even jewelry, and looks beautiful on the counter when not in use.
The intricate pattern on the covered jar was drawn and then hand carved. The covered jar and lid were thrown on the potter’s wheel and then finished and assembled when partially dry. After a bisque firing to 1900 degrees, glazes are applied with bulb syringes to different sections of the work, giving a cloisonné-like effect. All work is made of stoneware clay and fired to over 2100 degrees.
The covered jar holds 10 ounces.
Size: 4-1/4″ wide x 3-1/2″ tall
The clay and glazes are lead-free and food safe.
One Acre Ceramics pottery and tiles are handmade by Sarah and Thomas Gelsanliter at their studio in southeastern Michigan. Sarah and Thomas often draw on the colors and patterns of their surroundings while creating their work. Luminous glazes and intricate designs are the hallmarks of the art pottery and tiles made at One Acre Ceramics, and each piece is hand-crafted to be both beautiful and functional. With his background in design and tile-making, Thomas draws and hand carves all of the designs used at One Acre Ceramics. Covered jars, vases, candleholders, and other vessels are thrown on the potter’s wheel by Sarah. Both artists work on the pieces at different points in the process, allowing them to create finished work that neither could have achieved alone. Working together also allows them to draw on their varied backgrounds in clay and means daily conversations about designing new pieces, expanding surface treatments, and solving technical challenges.
